The history of JSC Research Institute Gidropribor in Kazakhstan began in 1972 with the opening of a branch of the Leningrad Research Institute Gidropribor on the basis of the K.E. Voroshilov Machine-Building Plant, which is currently known as JSC Ural Plant Zenit.
In the first ten years of the institute's existence, work was carried out to create an independent scientific organization, form a team and build the necessary infrastructure. In the 1980s, the towed complexes "Dolphin", "Strizh", "Zalom", "Dudinka" were developed, designed to search for sunken objects, communicate with submarines and map the seabed. These developments were carried out in cooperation with leading scientific institutions of the USSR, such as the Lebedev Physical Institute of the Academy of Sciences, the Central Research Institute "Morphizpribor", the Central Research Institute named after Academician A.N. Krylov, the Acoustic Institute of the Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Oceanology named after Academician P.P. Shirshov. At that time, the plant's staff was actively replenished with young specialists from technical universities, which allowed the number of employees to increase more than sixfold.
After Kazakhstan gained independence in 1991, the Ural branch was transformed into the Gidropribor Research Institute, and in 1993 it became the leading enterprise for the development of documentation for sea vessels in the country. At that time, various boats and multi-purpose floating craft were quickly designed and built, including patrol boats for shallow waters and vessels for coastal zones.
The institute continued to develop underwater technology. The modern RPAs OMAR and MEDUZA began to perform search and inspection operations in offshore oil production areas, including the production of measuring diaphragms for Tengizchevroil. In 1994-1996, the plant, together with the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, conducted scientific research on the development of wind turbines with a vertical axis of rotation, which allowed the creation of prototypes and confirmation of Kazakhstan's priority in this area.
Entering the 21st century, the Institute acquired a multidisciplinary nature, having formed the main areas of activity and retained a highly qualified team of developers capable of solving the most complex technical problems. The introduction of a quality management system that meets the requirements of the international standard in 2004, recognition of the enterprise by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping in 2005 and the State Institution "Shipping Register" of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Kazakhstan, obtaining the necessary licenses for conducting the selected areas of activity allowed the Institute to consolidate its position in the market of high-tech products in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"Technological renewal and scientific research are key factors for ensuring sustainable growth and increasing the competitiveness of our country in the world," noted the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Today, JSC "Research Institute "Gidropribor" is a multidisciplinary center engaged in design, shipbuilding, production of underwater vehicles and equipment for the oil and gas industry. The Institute actively cooperates with leading scientific institutions both in Kazakhstan and abroad. To date, more than 30 boats and watercraft for various purposes have been built and are successfully used by various departments and structures of our country.
